Every Child Deserves Equal Opportunity

Fundraising for Vibha India: Financial Year End Campaign

Munni and Jaibun were less than 12 years old when they started working at our home.  The 2 shy girls would accompany their mother - Kursitbi- our helper who came in everyday to clean our house, utensils.  Kursitbi would get into the kitchen to wash the utensils, while Munni and Jaibun would pick the broom up to sweep one room each.  A month passed by, same activity everyday.  In a few weeks, one fine day, I spoke to Munni and asked her what I thought was the most common question - 'What's the name of your school?'.  That's the question that elders would ask me when mom or dad would introduce me for the first time.  Munni shook her head as if to say no, and walked away.  I spoke to mom later that day who told me that both the girls don't understand English, and don't go to school.  I don't remember what my next set of questions and the answers were.  That moment stayed with me though.

In many ways, that was the start of my belief in the cause of helping the less fortunate children get equal opportunity.  In 2011, I was settled in a job that gave me fulfillment.  It was time I did something toward the cause I believed in.  It is then that I began searching ways to contribute, to feel better.  Vibha's [www.vibha.org] mission was unique, and one that helped them scale.  It knew that helping less fortunate children did not require grass root work.  The team of volunteers at Vibha would invest their energies to enable, empower and educate every individual who wished to make a positive difference in the life of an underprivileged child.  That's it.  I knew this was the organization and the team I'd join, and I did.  Every time we have conducted a fund raising event or have visited a school, the pride has multiplied.

I wish for you to join me this year, and together we can make a positive difference.  We're running our first year end campaign between now and March 31st to help 3,000 more children get equal opportunity.  My target is to raise INR 5,00,000, and I know that is achievable with your support!  Based on averages from all projects supported from Vibha, INR 1000 will benefit 1 child per year.  Together, we can help 5000 children either go to school or continue their schooling.  Let's do this together!
