Fundraising for Year End Drive 2023

An extraordinary tale was unfolding in the quaint village of Azhinjivakkam, where amidst the mud roads and modest homes, ten-year-old Manisha had become a local legend, defying the odds and clinching victory in the National English Word Power Championship amongst thousands of participants.

Azhinjivakkam, with its struggling literacy rates and absence of high schools, seemed an unlikely backdrop for a triumph that would resonate nationally. Manisha, a student at the lone government-run primary school, had become the face of resilience in the face of educational challenges. The lack of a high school in her village meant that her journey was a testament to the scarcity of opportunities that countless children like her faced.

Enter Vibha, the catalyst behind this transformation. Vibha’s belief in Scaling by Replication of proven models and Vibha’s modus operandi of partnership and collaboration brought the Foundational English Literacy program in Thiruvallur district, Tamil Nadu, all the way across the land from Maharashtra. Vibha partnered with Leap Forward to replicate their English teaching solution, proven in rural Maharashtra, and customize it for rural Tamil Nadu to 303 elementary schools, one if which was where Manisha was studying.

The video capturing her emotional win reveals not just a spelling contest triumph but the culmination of the dedication of a mother, a community, a teacher, several social impact organizations’,  a state government, and a group of volunteers. The story of Manisha is not just about spelling words; it’s about rewriting destinies and proving that potential knows no boundaries. It’s a narrative that beckons every reader to ponder: Are there more young talents waiting to be discovered, nurtured, and empowered?
